The UKRCC is a registered charity, soley dedicated to the welfare of Ragdoll cats and we run a very successful Ragdoll cat rescue and rehoming service. We care not only for the welfare of the Ragdolls, by seeking the very best homes for them, but we also care greatly for the owners who find themselves in a situation whereby they have to give their Ragdolls up. We work very differently to many breed rescues, in that we understand what a painful time it can be for owners and appreciate the need to offer them peace of mind, when they have entrusted us to find a home for their Ragdoll. We work to keep them informed throughout the rehoming process and ensure whenever possible that they have the opportunity to speak with and, in some cases, meet the family who will be adopting their Ragdoll. We believe this is not only helpful to the owner who is giving up their Ragdoll, in reassuring them we have found a good home, but that is gives the adopter an opportunity to find out as much about the needs, habits and routine of the Ragdoll as possible, so they can prepare for their arrival, making the whole expereince as stress free as possible.

We take the adoption process very seriously and always take great care when selecting any home for any cat, ensuring the new family really can meet the needs of the individual Ragdoll. Every potential adopter goes through a stringent vetting process, including a home asssessment, whereby a UKRCC local contact visits the home, to find out more about the family and to offer guidance and advice regards Ragdoll ownership. Our aim is to find life long homes for every Ragdoll that is entrusted to us and to give support to every party involved.

Whatever the reason that you find yourself needing to rehome your Ragdoll, we hope you will feel you can entrust us with the role of finding them a new family.

A Ragdoll is for Life, not just for Christmas

The UKRCC will not be rehoming any Ragdoll cats to new families during the period 1st December 2008 to 5th January 2009. This policy is put in place to prevent any Ragdolls being given as presents this Christmas. In addition the UKRCC strongly believes that the period running up to and including Christmas and the New Year is not the right time to introduce a Ragdoll into the family. Christmas is, by its nature, a very busy, hectic time, involving noise, decorations, visitors in most households etc. and a newly introduced Ragdoll cat can easily be stressed and frightened by all the festivities, within the home. It is important that any Ragdoll cat is introduced into the home when life is calm and quiet, so that the settling in period is as stress free as possible.
If you have a Ragdoll cat which you need to rehome, if it is at all possible please wait until the New Year before contacting us and then we shall do all we can to help you. If you need your Ragdoll cat removed from your home immediately and cannot wait until January, then please call us on 0870 766 9823.

The first step in the rehoming process is for us to gather as much information about each Ragdoll as possible, so that we understand their individual care needs and the type of home they require.

If you would like us to help you find a new home for your Ragdoll cat we would ask that you complete our online form, giving as much detail about your Ragdoll/s as you can and answering each question as fully as possible. Once we have received your form, we shall contact you personally and then begin the search for a new family, for your Ragdoll.

If you need your Ragdoll rehomed very quickly and feel they may need a foster home, while a permament home is found, then please complete the online form but also call 0870 766 9823, to advise us that you have an urgent case.

The UKRCC Ragdoll Rehoming Process

At the UKRCC we are committed to the welfare and happiness of all the Ragdolls we work with and the peace of mind of their owners. We take the adoption procedure extremely seriously and always work to find the very best home for every Ragdoll which is entrusted to us.

We gain as much information about the Ragdoll that we can with regards to health, temperament and specific needs, from the owner and we share this with potential adopters.

Whenever necessary a foster home is provided and we will care for the Ragdoll until a new home is found.

While in foster care all Ragdolls are assessed. They are wormed, treated for fleas, health checked by a vet and receive any veterinary care needed, including dentals, vaccinations and neutering.

We gain as much information about potential adopters as we can, so we know what kind of home they can offer and indeed whether they can offer the type of home we generally look for. All potential adopters are asked to complete our adoption application.

We match each Ragdoll to their new home based on suitability. We keep owners fully informed of our progress in finding their Ragdoll a new family and work to support and reassure them throughout the process.

Unlike many breed rehoming groups, we only carry out a home assessment once we have a Ragdoll available, which may suit a potential adopters circumstances. This way we can tailor the home visit to the specific needs of the Ragdoll concerned and make sure that the family really can provide the type of home we are looking for. A home assessment gives us an opportunity to meet all members of the family, inform and advise about the ownership of Ragdolls and answer any questions potential adopters may have.

If the potential adopter passes their home assessment, then we put them in touch with the owner or foster carer. This gives both parties an opportunity to ask any questions they may have and if possible arrange a visit to meet the Ragdoll, before any adoption takes place. The adoption only goes ahead when all parties involved are happy.

The current owner completes a handover document. The adopter completes a homing agreement and makes a minimum donation, currently £80, to the UKRCC Trust account, for each Ragdoll adopted. All paperwork must be forwarded to the UKRCC within 10 working days of the adoption.

We always offer support and advice to the new owners and maintain contact to ensure the Ragdoll is settling well. We are commited to offering ongoing advice and support, throughout the life of the Ragdoll.

If a Ragdoll is homed directly to its new family, without coming into foster care and needs a dental, neutering, a vaccination course etc. at the point of adoption, we shall meet the costs of this from UKRCC funds.

We keep the previous owners informed of their Ragdoll's progress in their new home, for as long as they wish us to. In many cases the adopters will happily remain in contact with the previous owner sending news and photos and we encourage this.

The UKRCC has a non-destruct policy and will never put a healthy cat to sleep.
